ORBCOMM owns and operates a global wireless network providing ubiquitous narrowband data communications that link distributed industrial assets to the Internet, boosting business productivity in key economic sectors around the world. The global network service offers two-way data communications as well as tracking, monitoring and messaging applications. With 97 employees spread over two locations and no Human Resources department, ORBCOMM had a unique situation, especially as they prepared for the process of transitioning from a private to a publicly held company.
Our initial 3-day visit led to a comprehensive audit of their current processes and procedures, only to find that consistency and documentation was a misnomer. Furthermore, in most cases, employees had not had a Performance Review or a salary review in four years or more. Immediately, AlignHR staff went in and worked with the Senior Management team to identify the short and long-term objectives of the company and implemented a comprehensive Performance Management System that was directly aligned with company's strategic goals. Within two months, greater than 70 percent of the employees had been presented with a Performance Review outlining their past performance and guiding them through goals for the upcoming year coupled with a comprehensive individual training plan.

- Offering of a Credit Union membership
- Separation of Personnel and Confidential files
- Relocation policy
- Streamlined recruiting process
- An Affirmative Action Plan to meet the requirements of their Federal Government contract
- First ever compliance with regulatory reporting requirements for the EEO-1 and Vets 100
- An Applicant Tracking System
- An updated Employee Handbook
Over the past year, AlignHR has been involved in every Employee Relations matter that ORBCOMM has faced. As the outsourced HR Department for ORBCOMM, AlignHR interacts daily with the employees at ORBCOMM to resolve any questions or issues regarding policies, procedures, benefits, discipline, performance, etc.
To address areas of specific concern, AlignHR has implemented Employee Benefit Satisfaction Surveys and initiated a full review of the company's present Employee Welfare Program. Furthermore, AlignHR was there to guide the company's 401k reporting and enrollment process.
Most recently, the company has invited us to develop and administer a departmental survey that will be used to ascertain the strengths and weaknesses of each individual contributor to the departmental team that will be used by the new CFO in order to gage the present As-Is state of the department and create a roadmap to ensure the success of each individual and the company as a whole.
